Episode 2: The Spark

The morning air at Aethelgard doesn't smell like nature; it smells like ozone and expensive floor wax. Adrian stands in the center of the Training Quad, a massive arena of white marble surrounded by floating observation platforms where the Sages sit like silent judges.

In front of him stands a Training Pylon—a black pillar of reinforced steel designed to measure "Impact Velocity."

Adrian: "If I hit this thing and nothing happens, my rank drops to 2,001. I’ll be off the island by dinner."

He closes his eyes. He feels the cold, metallic weight of the Orb in his chest. It doesn't feel like a gift; it feels like a parasite. He pushes his will into his arm.

Flicker.

His fist vanishes, reappearing inches forward, then vanishes again. He isn't moving fast; he is skipping through time. CLANG. His knuckles hit the steel. The Pylon hums, but the digital readout stays at zero.

A sharp, mocking whistle echoes across the marble. Jaxon is leaning against a pillar, his reddish-blonde hair messy, a cruel smirk on his face.

Jaxon: "Zero? That’s impressive, even for a charity case. My cat has more output when he’s purring. Why don’t you just save the Sages the paperwork and jump off the cliff now?"

Adrian: "The day I take advice from a guy who peaked in middle school is the day I jump, Jaxon. Back off."

Jaxon’s eyes flare a dull, sickly yellow. He opens his mouth, and a wave of Silence ripples out. The sound of the wind, the distant fountain, even Adrian’s own breathing—it all vanishes. The vacuum of sound hits Adrian like a physical wall, making his ears bleed.

Before Jaxon can move in for a strike, a streak of blue light slams into the ground between them.

Bryan: "Hey, Ginger! I thought the Sages told you to stop using your 'library voice' outside of class. It’s annoying."

Bryan stands there, his varsity jacket crackling with electricity. He doesn't just look at Jaxon; he dares him to move. Jaxon scowls, the silence breaking as he retreats toward the "Legacy" dorms.

Bryan: "You gotta stop letting them bait you, Adrian. They want you to flare your power so the Sentinels have an excuse to 'reset' you. Come on. Maya is waiting in the Arboretum."

The Arboretum – The Hidden Meeting

The Arboretum is a forest of bioluminescent trees that pulse with a soft, rhythmic purple light. Maya is sitting on a stone bench, her long raven hair trailing into the glowing grass. Beside her is Diana, who is busy polishing a pair of designer sunglasses, her platinum hair shining under the artificial moon.

Maya: "The Sages are accelerating the schedule. I felt it this morning. The 'Siphon' in the High Spire is pulling harder. They aren't just taking our excess energy anymore. They’re taking our life force."

Diana: "She’s right. My father sent me a coded message. The outside world is facing a total blackout. The governments are demanding more Ether. Aethelgard is the only refinery left that’s still producing."

Adrian: "So we aren't students. We're just fuel. How do we stop it?"

Maya: "We can't stop the Siphon from the outside. But your power, Adrian... it’s different. It doesn't have a steady frequency. The Sages' sensors can’t lock onto a 'Flicker.' You can go places we can’t."

Adrian: "You want me to break into the Mainframe."

Diana: "Not just the Mainframe. The Vault. We need to find the 'Primary Spark'—the very first Orb. It’s the heart of the school. If we can destabilize it, the whole system collapses."

Suddenly, the purple trees turn a violent, flashing Red. The low-frequency hum of the campus reaches a bone-rattling pitch.

Bryan: "Red lights. Someone’s 'Stability' just hit zero. The Sentinels are coming."

A scream echoes from the nearby freshman dorms. It isn't a human scream; it’s a hollow, metallic screech. Through the trees, they see a student being dragged out by two faceless Sentinels. The student’s skin is turning gray, his eyes becoming empty pits of glass.

Adrian: "That’s Leo’s roommate. He was Rank 1,900 yesterday."

Maya: "They’re starting the Harvest early. We don't have weeks, Adrian. We have days."

Adrian: "Then we stop planning and start moving. Bryan, find out where they’re taking the Hollows. Diana, keep Marcus busy. Maya... stay safe. If they take you, this whole thing is over."
