The campus atmosphere has shifted. Following the incident in the Dining Hall, the Stability Sensors have been recalibrated. They are now hyper-sensitive, glowing a constant, nervous orange. Every time Adrian walks down a hallway, the lights flicker, sensing his weakened state.
At the center of the university lies The Circle of Merit, a sunken stone arena where honor disputes are settled. Jaxon stands in the center, spinning a heavy obsidian coin between his fingers. A crowd of students, led by Marcus, watches from the tiers above.
Jaxon: "Thorne! You interfered with school business. According to the Sage Accord, that gives me the right to a Stability Duel. No Sentinels. No interference. Just you and me."
Bryan: "Adrian, don't do it. He’s at 85% stability. You’re at 12%. He’ll crack your Orb like an egg."
Adrian: "If I don't go down there, the Sages will expel me for cowardice. I have to play the game."
Adrian descends the stone steps. His legs feel like lead. Every step sends a jolt of pain through his chest.
Jaxon: "The rules are simple. First one to trigger a red light on the arena sensors loses. And since you're already halfway there, this should take about thirty seconds."

The Duel Begins
Jaxon doesn't wait. He slams his palms together, and a wave of Absolute Silence explodes outward. The sound of the wind, the cheering crowd, even the sound of Adrian’s own heartbeat—everything is sucked into a vacuum.
The pressure in Adrian’s ears is agonizing. Without sound, he loses his balance. He stumbles, the world spinning.
Jaxon: "Can't hear your own footsteps, can you? It’s hard to fight when you can't even tell where your own body is."
Jaxon lunges forward, his fist glowing with a dull yellow energy. He lands a blow on Adrian’s ribs. Adrian gasps, but no sound comes out. The sensor on the arena floor flashes orange.
STABILITY: 8%.
Adrian: "He’s... he’s trying to suffocate me with the vacuum. I can't breathe if the air doesn't vibrate."
Adrian tries to flicker, but his body just jitters in place. He’s too weak to jump through space. Jaxon kicks him in the stomach, sending him rolling across the stone.
Marcus: "Finish it, Jaxon. Stop playing with your food."
Jaxon raises both hands, preparing a massive "Sonic Void" to crush Adrian’s chest.
Adrian: "Think. If I can't use power, I have to use the environment."
Adrian looks at the arena floor. There are vents for the "Ether Cooling System" every five feet. He reaches out, his fingers brushing the iron grate of a vent. He doesn't try to flicker himself. He flickers the pressure valve inside the vent.
Flicker.
A massive, high-pressure jet of freezing Nitrogen gas screams out of the vent directly under Jaxon. Because Jaxon’s "Silence" field is active, the gas doesn't make a sound, but the pressure change is violent.
The vacuum field collapses. The sudden return of sound hits the arena like a bomb.
Jaxon: "WHAT—?! My field! I can't hold the pressure!"
Adrian: "You forgot one thing, Jaxon. Silence is just the absence of vibration. But Nitrogen? Nitrogen is physical."
Adrian uses the last of his strength. He doesn't punch Jaxon. He flickers his hand inside Jaxon’s Silence field and vibrates his fingers at a high frequency—creating a sonic boom within Jaxon’s own protected zone.
The sound is deafening. Jaxon screams, clutching his ears as he is thrown backward. The sensors on the ceiling snap to Red.
JAXON STABILITY: 0% – OVERLOAD.

The Aftermath
The arena doors hiss open. Two Sentinels glide in, their gravity staffs glowing. They don't look at Adrian. They grab Jaxon by the collar of his expensive blazer and drag him toward the "Neutralization" wing.
Marcus: "You got lucky, glitch. You broke his focus. That won't work on me."
Adrian: "I wasn't trying to be lucky. I was trying to be expensive. Replacing those vents is going to cost the school a lot of Ether. Maybe you should tell your dad to send a check."
Maya and Bryan rush down to the arena floor, catching Adrian before he collapses.
Maya: "That was reckless. You almost burned out your core."
Adrian: "But I won. And look..."
He points to the giant Ledger screen above the Quad.
RANK #1,950: ADRIAN THORNE. STABILITY: 2%.
Bryan: "You climbed fifty spots in one day. But Adrian... look at the top."
RANK #1: MARCUS VAN DORN. STATUS: ENRAGED.
Adrian: "Good. I want him to watch me climb."

Late Night – The Secret Garden
Diana meets them in the shadows of the library. She looks pale, her usual composure shaken.
Diana: "You shouldn't have won that duel. Now the Sages are interested in you. High Sage Zora just requested your Genetic Signature for the Tier-5 archives."
Adrian: "What does that mean?"
Diana: "It means you’re no longer just a scholarship kid. You’re a Specimen. And in this school, specimens don't graduate. They get dissected."
