CHAPTER 3

Compensation

The rain had been pouring for hours, hitting the umbrella so hard it felt like the sky was breaking apart. But Rain barely heard it.

Not after what Phayu just said.

The warmth that brushed against his cheek earlier felt louder than the storm itself.

“I definitely heard wrong…” Rain muttered, gripping the umbrella tighter.

Phayu had already opened the hood and was checking the engine calmly, as if he hadn’t just said something that made Rain’s brain malfunction.

Rain stood there in disbelief.

“Radiator’s leaking. And from the sound, the starter’s got a problem,” Phayu said casually. “You’ll have to park here. No garage will tow in this storm. You’ll have to wait until morning… if Bangkok doesn’t flood.”

Rain’s heart dropped.

He didn’t even know a garage.

“So, I’m leaving.”

“Wait!” Rain rushed forward and grabbed Phayu’s hand instinctively. “Don’t leave me like this!”

Phayu looked down at the hand gripping him.

Rain immediately let go.

“Phii… do you know any garage? Someone who can take the car now?”

Phayu rubbed his chin thoughtfully. “There is one. It’s expensive. Can you afford it?”

“Okay!” Rain answered confidently, thinking of his father’s credit card.

A faint smile touched Phayu’s lips before he pulled out his phone and made a call.

“Garage is coming.”

Rain almost sighed in relief.

See? He misunderstood earlier. Phii Phayu isn’t flirting. He’s just kind. Handsome. Cool. Helpful.

That’s all.

Not long after, a large forklift arrived. Rain watched nervously from inside the car until Phayu stepped out to talk to the driver.

“I’ll wait in the car. Call me when it’s here,” Phayu had said earlier.

He stayed.

Rain’s chest felt lighter.

“Come down,” Phayu called. “It’s handled.”

“So what do I do?”

Phayu gave him a look that clearly said, Why are you asking?

Rain stepped back obediently while the car was loaded.

“Phii Phayu… how do I contact the mechanic?”

“Go with him. Do the paperwork.”

“Now?!”

Phayu looked at him.

“…Now is fine.”

“But how do I go?”

Phayu jerked his thumb toward a seven-seater.

“You’re sending me?” Rain blinked. “No, I can’t trouble you more. I’m considerate.”

“If I’ve already wasted time, a little more doesn’t matter.”

Ouch.

Rain scratched his cheek.

“There are two options,” Phayu said calmly. “Take my car. Or go with the garage guy.”

Rain turned.

The garage man smiled, revealing two missing teeth.

Rain swallowed.

“I choose the third option. I’ll take a taxi.”

Phayu chuckled softly. “In this rain? At midnight? You’ll wait alone here? I read news recently. A student was murdered in the next alley. Dismembered. Blood everywhere…”

Rain grabbed his sleeve instantly.

“Phii Phayu, please send me. I’ll pay respect!”

The Garage

When they arrived, Rain froze.

“This… is your garage?!”

“Yeah. Didn’t I tell you?”

“You didn’t say a word! My heart almost stopped!”

The garage was huge, filled with sports cars and superbikes lined neatly.

Rain quickly filled out paperwork.

“When it’s repaired, we’ll call you,” the staff said.

“And if I call to ask?”

Phayu handed him a business card.

Rain secretly wished it was his personal number.

“So, I’m going back—”

“Follow me.”

“Follow where?”

Phayu walked upstairs without waiting.

Rain hurried after him. “Why do I have to run while you just walk?!”

Phayu stopped suddenly.

“Ouch!” Rain bumped into his back.

“If I don’t stop, how do I unlock the door? Come in.”

The room was simple. A bed. A wardrobe. A small table.

“My room when I stay at the garage.”

Phayu handed him a towel and clothes.

“Go shower. You’ll get sick.”

Rain hesitated, remembering the murder story.

“I’m scared.”

“When you’re done, we’ll talk about the cost.”

“Oh. Then I’ll shower quickly.”

After the Shower

When Rain stepped out, he almost forgot how to breathe.

Phayu had showered too.

He wore knee-length shorts and a black tank top. Wide shoulders. Strong arms. Damp hair falling over sharp eyes.

Dangerously handsome.

Heart-shakingly sexy.

“Thank you for letting me use the bathroom.”

Phayu looked up, then patted the bed beside him.

“Sit.”

Rain walked over without thinking.

Suddenly—

Swipe.

Phayu pulled a towel over his head.

“Dry your hair. You’ll get sick.”

Rain stiffened.

It was too close.

Too warm.

Phayu’s forearm rested near his shoulder. The scent of clean soap filled the air.

“If it hurts, tell me,” Phayu murmured softly near his ear.

Rain felt goosebumps rise instantly.

His heart was beating too fast.

“And… you’re too close, Phii.”
