“The Distance Between Us

Scene 1 — A Quiet Walk to School

Aoi walked to school alone, the morning breeze brushing against his uniform.

He used to take a longer route just to “accidentally” meet Miyu at the intersection near her house.

Today, he didn’t even glance in that direction.

He felt lighter.

Not happy.

Not sad.

Just… free.

As he approached the school gates, he noticed something strange — people were looking at him.

Not in a dramatic way, but with small, curious glances.

Whispers followed him like soft echoes.

“Is that really Tanaka-kun…?”

“He didn’t talk to Asahina-san yesterday.”

“Did something happen between them?”

Aoi ignored it.

He wasn’t doing this for attention.

He was doing it for himself.

Scene 2 — Miyu’s Restlessness

Meanwhile, Miyu Asahina stood in front of her mirror, brushing her hair for the third time.

She didn’t know why she felt so unsettled.

She had always been calm in the mornings.

Always composed.

Always in control.

But today, her chest felt tight.

She grabbed her bag and left the house earlier than usual — something she never did.

Her feet moved faster than her thoughts, almost as if she were chasing something.

Or someone.

When she reached the school gates, she scanned the crowd.

Aoi wasn’t there.

Her heart dropped a little.

“Why am I… looking for him?”

She didn’t have an answer.

Scene 3 — Aoi’s New Routine

In class, Aoi sat at his desk, reading quietly.

He didn’t look toward Miyu’s seat.

He didn’t wait for her to arrive.

He simply existed in his own space.

Riku slid into the seat beside him, raising an eyebrow.

Riku’s teasing — “You’re really sticking to this new lifestyle, huh?”

Aoi’s resolve — “It’s not a lifestyle.

I’m just… done forcing things.”

Riku smirked.

“Well, Asahina-san looked like she was searching for someone this morning.”

Aoi didn’t react.

Or rather — he didn’t let himself react.

Scene 4 — Miyu Arrives

When Miyu entered the classroom, her eyes immediately drifted to Aoi’s desk.

He didn’t look up.

He didn’t greet her.

He didn’t even flinch.

Something inside her twisted.

She sat down slowly, her fingers gripping her notebook.

She told herself it didn’t matter.

She told herself she didn’t care.

But her heart didn’t listen.

Scene 5 — Group Work Trouble

During homeroom, the teacher announced a group project.

Students shuffled around, forming groups with friends.

Aoi stayed seated, waiting for the leftover group — he didn’t want to bother anyone.

But before he could move, the teacher called out:

“Tanaka-kun, Asahina-san, and Sakamoto-kun — you three will work together.”

Miyu’s head snapped up.

Riku grinned.

Aoi blinked, surprised but calm.

The three gathered their desks together.

Miyu sat across from Aoi, trying not to stare.

Riku broke the silence.

“Alright, let’s divide the work.”

Aoi nodded.

Miyu stayed quiet, watching him.

He didn’t look at her.

He didn’t smile nervously like he used to.

He didn’t try to impress her.

He was… normal.

And somehow, that bothered her more than anything.

Scene 6 — Miyu’s Slip

As they discussed the project, Miyu finally spoke.

“Tanaka-kun… you’re being different.”

Aoi paused.

“Different how?”

She hesitated.

“You’re… distant.”

Aoi met her eyes for the first time that day.

“I’m just giving you space. I thought that’s what you wanted.”

But she knew she didn’t want this.

“I never said I wanted space.”

Aoi looked away.

“You didn’t have to.”

Riku glanced between them, sensing the tension.

Scene 7 — After School

When the final bell rang, Aoi packed his things quickly.

He didn’t want another awkward conversation.

But as he stepped into the hallway, Miyu called out:

“Tanaka-kun! Wait!

”He stopped.

She walked up to him, her expression conflicted.

“Did I… do something wrong?”

Aoi shook his head.

“No. I just realized I shouldn’t chase someone who doesn’t feel the same.”

Miyu’s heart pounded.

“But… I never said I didn’t.”

Aoi froze.

Miyu looked away, cheeks slightly pink.

“I just… didn’t know how to respond. You were always so intense. It was overwhelming.”

Aoi swallowed.

“I’m sorry.”

“No— I didn’t mean it like that.”

She stepped closer.

“I just… wasn’t ready.”

Aoi didn’t know what to say.

For the first time, Miyu was the one reaching out.

The one trying to close the distance.

Scene 8 — Ending Hook

Miyu took a small breath.

“So… can we start over?”

Aoi looked at her, truly looked at her.

Not as a dream.

Not as a fantasy.

But as a person.

He nodded slowly.

“Yeah. We can.”

Miyu smiled — a real, gentle smile.

But behind them, someone watched from the end of the hallway.

A girl with sharp eyes.

A girl who had been observing Aoi’s change with interest.

A new presence.

A new complication.

A new chapter beginning.
