“The Girl at the End of the Hallway

Scene 1 — A Strange New AttentionThe next morning, Aoi walked into school feeling more balanced than he had in years.

He wasn’t chasing Miyu.

He wasn’t avoiding her either.

He was simply… living.

But something felt different today.

Eyes followed him again — not with curiosity this time, but with interest.Especially one pair.

At the far end of the hallway stood a girl he didn’t recognize.

Short black hair, sharp eyes, posture straight like she was evaluating him.

She didn’t look away when he noticed her.

She smirked.

Aoi blinked, confused, and continued walking.

Scene 2 — Miyu’s New Effort

Miyu arrived earlier than usual again.

She spotted Aoi at his desk, reading quietly.

Her heart fluttered — a feeling she wasn’t used to.She approached him slowly.

“Good morning, Tanaka-kun.”

Aoi looked up, surprised but polite.

“Morning, Asahina-san.”

She hesitated.

He used to say her name with so much warmth.

Now it sounded… normal.

Too normal. She sat down beside him.

“About yesterday… I meant what I said. I want to start over.”

Aoi nodded.

“I know. And I’m willing to.”

But his tone was calm, not excited.

Not hopeful.

Just steady.

Miyu felt a tiny sting in her chest.

Scene 3 — Riku Notices Everything

Riku slid into the seat behind them, grinning.

Riku’s observation — “Wow, Asahina-san, you’re early again.”

Miyu’s reaction — “I… just wanted to review notes.”

Riku raised an eyebrow.

Aoi pretended not to notice.

But Riku definitely noticed.

Scene 4 — The New Girl Appears

During break, Aoi stepped into the hallway to get a drink.

As he closed his locker, someone tapped his shoulder.

He turned.

It was the girl from earlier.

She stood confidently, arms crossed.

“You’re Aoi Tanaka, right?”

Aoi nodded slowly.

“Yeah. Do I know you?”

She smirked.

“Not yet. I’m Kira Minami. Transfer student.”

Aoi blinked.

“Oh. Welcome to—”

“You’re interesting.”

Aoi froze.

“Huh?”

Kira leaned in slightly.

“Yesterday, you walked right past the prettiest girl in class without even looking at her. And today, she’s the one staring at you.”

Aoi felt his face warm.

“It’s… complicated.”

“Good. I like complicated.”

Aoi stepped back, unsure how to respond.

Kira tilted her head.

“Relax. I’m not here to cause trouble. I just want to understand you.”

Aoi didn’t know what that meant, but something told him she wasn’t lying.

Scene 5 — Miyu Sees Them

Miyu walked out of the classroom to find Aoi — and froze.

He was talking to another girl.

A girl she didn’t recognize.

A girl standing very close to him.

A girl smiling at him like she already knew him.

Miyu’s stomach tightened.

She approached slowly.

“Tanaka-kun…?”

Aoi turned.

“Oh, Asahina-san. This is Minami-san. She’s new.”

Kira gave a polite bow

“Nice to meet you.”

Miyu forced a smile.

“Nice to meet you too.”

But her eyes flicked between them, analyzing the distance — or lack of it.

Kira noticed.

And smirked.

Scene 6 — Group Project Tension

During their group project, Miyu kept glancing at Aoi.

He was focused, calm, and completely unaware of her staring.

Riku leaned over and whispered:

“You’re acting weird.”

Miyu flinched.

“I’m not.”

“You totally are.”

She ignored him.

But when Kira walked past their classroom door and peeked inside, Miyu’s grip on her pencil tightened.

Aoi didn’t notice.

But Kira did.

Scene 7 — After School Confrontation

When school ended, Miyu caught up to Aoi at the shoe lockers.

“Tanaka-kun… can we walk home together?”

Aoi blinked.

“We don’t live in the same direction.”

“I know. But… I want to talk.”

Aoi hesitated, then nodded.

They walked in silence for a moment.

Finally, Miyu spoke.

“That girl… Minami-san. Do you like her?”

Aoi nearly tripped.

“What? No. I just met her.”

Miyu looked relieved — but only for a second.

“She seems… interested in you.”

Aoi sighed.

“Asahina-san… I’m not trying to get involved with anyone right now.”

Miyu stopped walking.

“Not even me?”

Aoi froze.

The question hung in the air like a fragile thread.

He turned to her slowly.

“I don’t know yet.”

Miyu’s breath caught.

“But… I want to try.”

Aoi looked at her — really looked at her.

She wasn’t the unreachable girl he’d chased for years.

She was just a girl, standing in front of him, unsure and vulnerable.

“Then let’s take it slow,”

he said softly.

Miyu nodded, cheeks warm.

But behind them, hidden behind a tree, Kira watched with narrowed eyes.

“Slow, huh?” she whispered.

“We’ll see.”
