The five friends continued walking through the forest, the cool evening breeze gently swaying the leaves above them. The orange glow of the setting sun filtered through the trees, painting the ground with patches of gold.
For a while, they simply enjoyed each other's company.
"I still can't believe you spend every afternoon training here," Rowan said, stretching his arms behind his head. "If it were me, I'd already be asleep."
Kael laughed.
"That's because you're lazy."
"I'm not lazy," Rowan replied with a grin. "I'm just... saving my energy."
Even Seraphine let out a soft laugh.
Lyra smiled. Moments like these always made her forget about the cruel words of the villagers. Around her friends, she didn't feel different.
Suddenly, a cold gust of wind swept through the forest.
The cheerful atmosphere disappeared in an instant.
The birds stopped singing.
Even the insects fell silent.
Elara frowned and looked around.
"Something isn't right."
Kael's smile faded.
"I feel it too."
Without warning, a brilliant silver light burst across the evening sky.
It moved faster than any shooting star Lyra had ever seen.
"What is that?" Rowan shouted as he pointed upward.
The glowing object streaked across the heavens, leaving a trail of shimmering light behind it before disappearing into the northern part of the forest.
A second later...
BOOOOM!!
The earth shook violently.
The force of the impact knocked everyone off balance.
Lyra stumbled onto one knee while Kael grabbed a nearby tree to keep himself from falling.
Birds flew from the treetops in panic, and frightened animals rushed through the undergrowth.
"W-What was that?" Lyra whispered.
Dust drifted through the air as the trembling slowly came to an end.
In the distance, a pillar of silver light rose above the forest canopy.
It pulsed gently, almost like the heartbeat of something alive.
"We should go and see!" Rowan said excitedly.
Elara immediately stepped in front of him.
"No."
Rowan blinked.
"What do you mean by 'no'?"
"We don't know what that thing is," Elara replied calmly. "It could be dangerous."
Seraphine nodded in agreement.
"I think... she's right."
Kael looked toward the mysterious light.
"If something really crashed, the village guards will investigate it soon."
Lyra remained silent.
She couldn't take her eyes off the glowing pillar.
For reasons she couldn't explain, it felt strangely familiar.
As though...
It was waiting for someone.
Then a voice echoed inside her mind.
"The Keybearer has arrived..."
Lyra's eyes widened.
Another voice followed.
"She possesses a pure heart."
A third voice spoke with uncertainty.
"She appears weak."
Then a final voice whispered,
"She is the final hope of Elmesia."
Lyra froze where she stood.
Her breathing became uneven.
"Who's there?" she whispered.
The others turned toward her.
"Lyra?" Kael asked. "Who are you talking to?"
She looked around desperately.
"I... I heard voices."
"What voices?" Rowan asked.
"They were speaking... about a Keybearer."
Her friends exchanged confused glances.
"There wasn't anyone here," Elara said.
Lyra slowly lowered her head.
Had she imagined it?
Or had the voices truly spoken only to her?
The silver light shone even brighter.
For just a brief moment, Lyra felt an invisible pull toward it.
She wanted to walk closer.
She wanted to know what had fallen from the sky.
But before she could take a step, Elara spoke firmly.
"It's getting late. Whatever that thing is, we are not going near it. Let's return to the village."
Reluctantly, everyone agreed.
As they walked back toward Moonvale, Lyra glanced over her shoulder one last time.
The mysterious light still glowed deep within the forest.
It felt as though it was calling her name.
And no matter how hard she tried...
She couldn't stop thinking about it.
