The journey back to Moonvale was unusually quiet.
Normally, Rowan would joke about something, and Kael would answer with a laugh. But today, no one spoke much. The mysterious object that had fallen from the sky lingered in everyone's minds.
As they reached the village, the streets were filled with worried people.
"D-d-did you feel that earthquake?", said one of the villagers in a frightened voice.
"I've never seen a light like that before."
"It must be a bad omen."
The villagers whispered among themselves, fear spreading from one person to another.
Lyra quietly said goodbye to her friends and returned home. On her way back all she could think was about the glowing light, the voices, and the keybearer.
As she was confused and worried thinking about everything that had happened during the day, she didn't notice that she had already reached her house, until she heard her mother's voice from the distance.
As she stepped inside, the comforting smell of dinner filled the house.
"There you are," her mother, Lina Evermoon, said warmly. "I was beginning to worry."
"I'm so sorry, Mom. Me and my friends stayed in the forest longer than we planned."
Lina smiled.
"Wash your hands now. Dinner is already ready."
Lyra nodded, but her thoughts were somewhere else. All she could think about was the glowing light she had seen.
Throughout dinner, she barely spoke.
"Is everything alright?" Lina asked gently.
"I'm just... tired," Lyra replied with a small smile.
Although Lina didn't ask any more questions, she could tell something was troubling her daughter.
That night, after wishing her mother goodnight, Lyra lay in bed staring at the ceiling.
No matter how hard she tried...
She couldn't sleep.
Every time she closed her eyes, she saw the silver light.
Every time she remembered the voices, her heart beat faster.
"The Keybearer..."
"The final hope of Elmesia..."
The words echoed inside her mind again and again.
"What does it all mean?" she whispered.
Minutes turned into hours.
The moon climbed high into the night sky.
Finally, Lyra sat up.
"I have to know."
She quietly changed into her cloak and carefully opened her bedroom window.
Making sure not to wake her mother, she climbed outside and landed softly on the ground.
The cool night air greeted her as she began walking toward the forest.
The village was silent and the atmosphere was almost creepy.
Only the sound of crickets accompanied her footsteps, with the lights of the stars.
As she entered the forest, the trees seemed taller than they had during the day. And the road seemed to be streching endlessly into the void.
The moonlight barely reached the ground.
Despite the darkness, Lyra continued forward.
Then...
She saw it.
A brilliant silver light glowing between the ancient trees.
It was more beautiful than she had imagined it to be.
The closer she walked, the stronger the strange feeling inside her became.
It was almost as though the light had been waiting...
Waiting for her alone.
Lyra took a deep breath and stepped toward the mysterious glow.
What awaited her beyond those trees would change her life forever.
