A cold wind swept across the clearing.
Lyra stood frozen as the stranger's crimson eyes remained fixed on her. The silver glow surrounding her slowly faded, but the strange warmth within her chest remained.
Valen Noctis smiled calmly.
"So, the Key of Dusk has finally found its bearer."
Lyra instinctively stepped backward.
"Who are you?"
"I already told you," he replied. "My name is Valen Noctis."
His voice was calm, almost friendly, yet something about him filled Lyra with fear.
"What do you want?"
Valen glanced at the faint symbol on the back of her hand.
"The Five Keys."
"They possess power beyond imagination."
"And now... you possess one of them."
Lyra shook her head.
"I don't even know what's happening!"
"Then allow me to explain."
Valen slowly walked forward.
"The Five Keys once belonged to the ancient Guardians of Elmesia. When they disappeared, the Keys scattered across the world, waiting for new bearers."
His smile faded.
"I've spent years searching for them."
"And I won't let this opportunity slip away."
Dark mist slowly gathered around his feet.
Lyra's breathing quickened.
The Key of Dusk suddenly spoke inside her mind.
"Be careful."
"His power is far greater than yours."
"What should I do?" Lyra thought desperately.
"Do not fight to win."
"Fight to survive."
Before Lyra could react, Valen raised his hand.
Dark tendrils shot across the ground like living snakes.
Lyra gasped and jumped aside just in time.
The shadows slammed into the earth, leaving deep cracks behind.
"What...?"
Valen looked almost disappointed.
"You have good instincts."
"But instinct alone won't save you."
He swung his arm again.
This time, dozens of dark blades formed in the air before flying toward Lyra.
She tried to run, but one blade grazed her shoulder.
"Aah!"
She stumbled to the ground.
Pain shot through her arm.
Fear overwhelmed her.
"I can't do this..."
"I've never fought anyone..."
The Key answered calmly.
"Do not let fear control you."
"Close your eyes."
Lyra hesitated.
Another wave of darkness rushed toward her.
She shut her eyes.
The warmth inside her body spread through every part of her.
When she opened them again...
Silver light surrounded her.
The forest blurred.
Suddenly—
Five identical Lyras stood around Valen.
Each one looked completely real.
Valen stopped.
"So these are the powers of the Key of Dusk..."
The five Lyras ran in different directions.
Valen attacked one with a blast of darkness.
It vanished like smoke.
Another disappeared.
Then another.
"So they're only illusions."
A faint smile crossed his face.
"A useful ability."
"But you still lack experience."
While Valen searched for the real Lyra, she quietly slipped behind a large tree, trying to steady her breathing.
The Key spoke again.
"This is your chance."
"Run."
Lyra clenched her fists.
"But if I keep running, he'll just keep chasing me."
"Not today."
"Your journey has only begun."
She nodded.
Taking one final look at Valen, she turned and sprinted into the forest.
Branches brushed against her face as she ran through the darkness.
Behind her, Valen made no attempt to follow immediately.
Instead, his calm voice echoed through the trees.
"Run if you wish, Lyra Evermoon."
"Our paths will cross again."
"And next time..."
"I will claim the Key."
His words sent a chill down her spine.
Lyra didn't stop running until the lights of Moonvale appeared in the distance.
She leaned against a tree, exhausted.
Her shoulder still hurt, and her heart refused to slow.
"T-The world... is far bigger than I ever imagined," she whispered.
The Key of Dusk answered one last time.
"This is only the beginning, Keybearer."
"Four more Keys will awaken."
"New allies will join you."
"New enemies will hunt you."
"And one day..."
"The fate of Elmesia will rest in your hands."
Lyra looked up at the stars shining above the village.
Only a few hours ago, she had been an ordinary girl.
Now...
Her destiny had changed forever.
